The Cooley Circle

The Texas Heart Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve cardiovascular health today through trailblazing research, thought leadership, education, and patient care. Founded by Dr. Denton A. Cooley in 1962, THI completed the first successful heart transplant in the United States followed by the first implantation of a total artificial heart. Since then, many of our discoveries, or “firsts”, have transcended geographic boundaries and evolved into globally accepted standards of care — contributing to decreased cardiovascular disease mortality rates over the last several decades.

These “firsts” would not have been possible without the support of our philanthropic community.

The Cooley Circle was established in 2001 to stimulate awareness of and provide support for The Texas Heart Institute and its programs. More than twenty years later, this community engagement initiative remains vitally important. The Cooley Circle creates a firm base of annual support to strengthen and advance innovative programs in cardiovascular research, education, and patient care. Its members serve as ambassadors for The Institute and its programs.

A minimum gift of $5,000 qualifies individuals for annual membership in The Cooley Circle.  In appreciation for their support, members are guests at an annual recognition dinner and receive complimentary mailings, distinctive acknowledgments in The Texas Heart Institute’s publications, and invitations to special functions.  Membership, which includes the spouse or partner of the donor, is conferred immediately upon receipt of the tax-deductible contribution.
