The Texas Heart Institute Celebrates Heart Health With The Elnita McClain Women’s Center

As a special part of American Heart Month 2024, The Texas Heart Institute celebrated with members of the Tenth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church at The Elnita McClain Women’s Center Go Red 2024 Luncheon and Fashion Show “Caring for Heart, Mind and Soul.” The event on February 3, 2024, welcomed over 350 attendees and continued a 13-year tradition of raising awareness of heart disease.

Representatives from The Institute’s Center for Women’s Heart & Vascular Health shared Houston HeartReach Passport booklets with attendees interested in keeping track of their heart-health-related “numbers”—their levels of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol—as they focus on improving their cardiovascular health.

Cardiologists from The Texas Heart Institute Center for Cardiovascular Care provided practical advice on improving heart health.  Dr. Stephanie Coulter, heart imaging expert and medical director of the THI Women’s Center, spoke about “Bringing the Future of Cardiovascular Health to Life…Together!” In his debut presentation to the Go Red luncheon audience, interventional cardiologist Dr. Alexander Postalian discussed “Cardiovascular Prevention: What You Need to Know.” Dr. Postalian emphasized the importance of a healthy diet and moderate physical activity; controlling your weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure; not smoking; and getting good sleep. He also highlighted the similarities and differences in cardiovascular disease for men and women.

“Each year, this special event with The Elnita McClain Women’s Center is one of our favorite American Heart Month activities,” said Keri Sprung, MBA, The Institute’s Vice President for Education and THI Women’s Center director. “Our partnership with the Center really highlights the crucial role that women play in encouraging healthy habits within their families and communities.”
