Research Innovation Fund

The Texas Heart Institute Research Innovation Fund

For more than sixty years, The Texas Heart Institute (THI) has been a leader in the scientific advancement of cardiovascular care through trailblazing research, thought leadership, education, and patient care.

The Texas Heart Institute Research Innovation Fund was established with the same pioneering spirit on which Dr. Denton A. Cooley founded the Institute in 1962. The Fund will propel the next generation of cardiovascular research at The Texas Heart Institute by sparking discovery, supporting innovation, and recognizing excellence in high-risk, high-reward scientific exploration.

The Fund will support novel translational research and programs that integrate discovery science, personalized medicine, patient- and population-based research into a multidisciplinary framework to improve global health. Areas of focus include Circulatory Assist Device and Engineering Innovations; Cell Therapy and Clinical trials; Arrhythmia Research and Management; Drug Discovery and Development; Regenerative Medicine and Gene Therapy; and Health Data Sciences.

As The Texas Heart Institute enters its seventh decade, it continues to push the boundaries of research, education, and clinical care. Scientists and clinicians at THI do more than simply follow a path; they take risks, delve into unexplored areas, and set entirely new courses in cardiovascular research.

Through the generosity of Frederick M. Weissman, M.D., the first $5 million in commitments of $10,000 or greater designated to The Research Innovation Fund or any of its priority areas will be matched 1:1, allowing you to double the impact of your research investment.

Imagine the world of cardiovascular health if Dr. Cooley had not made the high-risk, high-reward decisions he did more than half a century ago. Those “firsts” are the foundation on which The Texas Heart Institute’s pioneering spirit was built. The Research Innovation Fund provides critical resources to support The Texas Heart Institute investigators to discover the “next firsts” in cardiovascular research.
