Program Overview

The 2024 Global Cardiovascular Forum highlights new guidelines, approaches, technologies, and procedures in the care of the cardiovascular patient to educate a national and international audience of physicians in the recent changes to the practice of cardiology. The invited faculty will discuss recent ACC/AHA guidelines, aortic stenosis, transcatheter aortic valve replacement versus surgical replacement in younger patients, percutaneous coronary intervention versus coronary bypass grafting, treatment strategies and barriers to caring for underrepresented patients with heart disease, the indications, risks and benefits of non-invasive assessment of chest pain and intravascular coronary imaging and novel treatments for atrial fibrillation.

Purpose

The purpose of this forum is to educate a national and international audience of physicians in the recent changes to the practice of Cardiology. The focus will be on new guidelines, new approaches, and new technologies and new procedures in care of the cardiovascular patient. The target audience will include, but is not limited to, cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, general medicine practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, residents, and fellows.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of each lecture in the series, the participant should be able to:

• Discuss 2024 changes in society guidelines for management of cardiovascular diseases.
• Discuss updated ACC/AHA guidelines.
• Discuss treatment strategies and barriers to care for underrepresented minorities with heart disease.
• Describe the indications, risks, and benefits of novel strategies for evaluating and treating cardiovascular disease.
• Identify patients that would benefit from revascularization and debate the optimal approach.
• Explain the risks and benefits of transcatheter aortic valve replacement in patients with complex aortic valve disease.

Target Audience

The target audience includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other medical care providers who are interested in this medical care.

Accreditation

The Texas Heart Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation

The Texas Heart Institute designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABIM MOC Credit

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 4.00 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit. Successful completion is a passing grade of 70% on the assessment in the CME evaluation.
