The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center Recognized Among Nation’s Best in Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery by U.S. News & World Report

HOUSTON (Aug. 1, 2023)The Texas Heart Institute® at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is proud to announce that U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Institute No. 17 in the nation among Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery hospitals. A global leader celebrating more than 60 years of innovation in cardiovascular medicine, The Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center has ranked among the top cardiac centers in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report since the rankings’ inception over 30 years ago.

The Institute also once again was recognized with high-performing ratings for every complex cardiovascular condition and procedure, including heart failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and heart attack.

“The U.S. News & World Report rankings are a valuable resource for locating skilled sources of care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions,” said Dr. Joseph G. Rogers, President and CEO of The Texas Heart Institute. “The Institute’s ranking among the nation’s best in Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery is a testament to the exceptional skill and experience of our clinicians and researchers, and the relentless pursuit of excellence by all members of The Texas Heart Institute family. Ultimately, these rankings highlight the Institute’s innovation and success in delivering patient-centered, transformational clinical care, research and education.”

The Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery ranking is based on analysis of patient outcomes in the medical and surgical treatment of cardiovascular disease, the volume of high-risk patients, patient experience, nurse staffing, public transparency and advanced clinical technologies. To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients.

“This well-deserved recognition underscores the hard work and tenacity of The Texas Heart Institute team who collaborates daily to ensure excellent patient outcomes and satisfaction. I am so proud of their tireless efforts on behalf of our cardiac patients,” said The Texas Heart Institute’s Assistant Medical Director Dr. Stephanie Coulter, who also is Chief of Staff-Elect at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center and a member of both The Texas Heart Institute and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Executive Committees.

In the Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery category, U.S. News & World Report ranked the top 50 hospitals that care for patients who required challenging heart and vascular treatments, including heart transplants, implantation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, major chest procedures, and treatments for cardiovascular disease and other complex conditions such as endocarditis, heart failure and circulatory issues.
