The Texas Heart Institute’s School of Perfusion Technology awards the Sal Guercio Memorial Scholarship every year at the Annual School of Perfusion Symposium.
This annual award honors the memory of Sal Guercio, a greatly respected member of The THI Perfusion School family—Perfusion School alumnus (Class of 1987), staff perfusionist for 27 years, and longtime clinical instructor at the school.
His passion for his profession and for teaching made him a favorite among his colleagues, the surgeons with whom he worked, and the generations of perfusion students that he trained.
The award, which is designed to emphasize professional integrity, will be presented to an outstanding student enrolled in the Perfusion Technology program. Junior and Senior THI Perfusion School students in good academic standing are encouraged to apply.
The electronic scholarship application is open from March 15 to April 15, 2026, and the award recipient will be announced at the June 2026 graduation ceremony
Interested applicants must be current THI perfusion students and must apply online before the deadline.
