Best Practices in Perfusion Technology

The Texas Heart Institute 2025 Perfusion Conference is designed to provide the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of the cardiac patient with the most recent information regarding surgical and perfusion techniques.

Experts in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, nursing, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support, and perfusion technology will present current best practices for patient care. Please join us, either in person or virtually, for three days of scientific sessions, case presentations, and panel discussions.

Multidisciplinary Audience

The goal of PerfCon 2025 is to share knowledge, skills, and techniques, creating an educational dialogue among local and international communities of cardiovascular healthcare professionals.

Symposium Purpose

The THI 2025 Perfusion Conference is designed to provide the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of the cardiac patient with current information regarding surgical and perfusion techniques. Experts in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, and perfusion technology will participate in the conference, discussing best practices for patient care.

Program Overview

Experts in the fields of cardiothoracic surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, nursing, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support, and perfusion technology will present current best practices for patient care, focusing on the following areas: surgical and perfusion techniques for aortic aneurysms, adult congenital cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation, current techniques for organ preservation and normothermic regional perfusion, goal-directed perfusion monitoring, ECMO support for adult and pediatric patients, updates on international perfusion education, and advances in the development of the total artificial heart.

The goal of the conference is to share knowledge, skills, and techniques, creating an educational dialogue among local and international communities of cardiovascular healthcare professionals.

The symposium has been designed for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventionalists, cardiology fellows, family and general practitioners, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, perfusionists, perfusion students, autotransfusionists, ECMO specialists, and medical students.

Learning Objectives

• Describe the function of the total artificial heart, perfusion cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit, cannulation, and patient management for implantation.

• Describe perfusion strategies to measure cerebral oxygen delivery and strategies for goal-directed perfusion.

• Describe optimal perfusion circuit and perfusion techniques for organ transplantation and organ harvesting.

• Describe current perfusion techniques and strategies for adult congenital heart surgery.

• Describe current perfusion circuits and strategies for cerebral and myocardial protection for aortic aneurysm thoracic surgery.

• Describe cannulation strategies for veno-venous (VV), veno-arterial (VA), and veno-arterial-venous (VAV) ECMO support.

Accreditation

The Texas Heart Institute is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation

The Texas Heart Institute designates this live activity for a maximum of 21.00 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Perfusion CEU

Conference participants will earn 27.4 CAT I Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) from the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).

Cancellation Policy

The Texas Heart Institute Office of CME must receive written notification of a refund request postmarked and dated no later than Friday, May 16, 2025.

A $50.00 processing fee will be assessed for each cancellation. Refunds cannot be made for those who register but do not attend the scheduled activities. Refunds will not be provided for cancellations made within 72 hours of the symposium. The Texas Heart Institute reserves the right to cancel this activity if registration is deemed insufficient.
