With a history of bypass surgery and no cardiologist immediately available to me now, how often should I exercise on a treadmill?

I had bypass surgery 6 years ago and seem to be in good health. I now live in a small town with no cardiologist. How often should I use a treadmill and what is the best kind to have? Thank you!

In reference to time: 30 to 45 minutes of physical activity per day would be ideal. Walking, bicycle, elliptical are options. If using a treadmill, an interval program alternating speed and incline every 5 minutes x 20 minutes may help. The goal would be to walk at a max speed of 4 miles per hour; the kind depends on the individual.
