Australian Delegation Visits THI to Observe Best Practices

A delegation of members from Melbourne, Australia’s Victorian Heart Hospital planning team came to the Texas Medical Center this month to tour and meet with leadership at various cardiac centers. The purpose of the trip was to tour operational facilities, observe best practices and gather additional learnings, which the planning team intends to incorporate into the design of their new heart hospital. The Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) will be the first purpose-built heart hospital in Australia that’s dedicated to cardiac clinical care, research, education and training.

The delegation met with Texas Heart Institute’s President Emeritus, Dr. James T. Willerson, to hear more about how our world-renowned Institute is run. It was an honor to share learnings and best practices the THI team has put into place since our inception in 1962 and we look forward to continuing the conversation as construction on the VHH begins.

“We enjoyed our visit with Professor Christina Mitchell, Dean of Medicine Monash University, and members of Monash Health and the Victorian Health and Human Services Authority. Our best wishes to this team in their important efforts to build a dedicated heart hospital in Australia and contribute to global heart health.” — James T. Willerson, MD
