J. Michael Duncan, MD

A highly skilled and respected board certified cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, consultant, and educator, Dr. J. Michael Duncan, has extensive experience performing all types of cardiovascular procedures, including coronary bypass and cardiac valve surgery. In addition, he has a special interest in arrhythmia surgery, including the Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation, and aortic aneurysm procedures. Show full bio

Dr. Duncan, received the Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas, in 1971. Following a surgery internship at Yale-New Haven Medical Center in 1971-1972, he did a Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals, Houston Texas, from 1972 -1976. He then completed a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Residency (1976 – 1978) at the Texas Heart Institute, Houston, Texas, and later served in the United States Army as a thoracic surgeon from 1978 to 1980, achieving the rank of Major.

He is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery , and the American Board of General Vascular Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, and the Houston Cardiology Society. Dr. Duncan is also a Member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association.
