A noted Cardiothoracic surgeon and research scholar, Dr. Mallidi is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and currently leads the Heart and Lung Transplant programs at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (SLEH). During his short tenure with Baylor College of Medicine, recently recruited in January of 2012, he has used his expertise to advance surgical practices in the Texas Medical Center and holds several appointments including: Associate Chief of Transplant Service and Surgical Director of the Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant programs at SLEH, as well as Director of Clinical Outcomes Research for the Center for Cardiac Support at the Texas Heart Institute (THI). His interests include cardiothoracic transplantation, ventricular assist devices, complex coronary artery surgery, aortic and mitral valve repair/replacement and adult congenital heart surgery.
Dr. Mallidi graduated, with honors, from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, where he also completed his residency, as Chief Surgical Resident, in Cardiac surgery. Transitioning to the Stanford University School of Medicine, he completed his fellowship in Cardiothoracic Transplant and Heart Failure surgery, and was later appointed Director of Stanford’s LVAD program. He served as the Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Regional Medical Center of San Jose in 2007, as well as the Interim Director for Cardiothoracic surgery at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in 2010.
Dr. Mallidi is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and holds memberships in many scientific societies including: the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American Society of Transplantation and the Western Thoracic Surgical Association.
An invited lecturer to many national and international conferences, Dr. Mallidi’s presentations include topics ranging from transplantation to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He is an extensively published expert on transplantation and assist devices. Among his more than 50 published works are book chapters, journal articles, abstracts and scientific papers on a variety of topics related to his specialty interests.
