September 2008—Proyecto Corazón
The Project Heart website is now available in Spanish (
en español). The curriculum, lesson plans, activity masters, and "Look" resources (including links to Heart Information Center topics) are fully integrated in the new Spanish version and you can also toggle back and forth between languages. We gratefully acknowledge the
Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation for its support for this project.
August 2008—Special Presentations Enhance Resources
"A Coordinated Approach to Childhood Obesity" is a narrated slide presentation now available on the Project Heart website. Another presentation covers
hypertension in children. Both are intended for teachers, school nurses, parents, or others who work with children.
July 2008—News Feature Added
"In the News" is a new feature for the Project Heart community. Check the page often for the latest articles about kids health, nutrition, and fitness issues.
January 2008—Website Honored for 3rd Year
The Texas Heart Institute website is one of only 6 websites to receive an
Aesculapius Award of Excellence in 2007 from the Health Improvement Institute, in recognition of excellence in the communication of information about healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and health care. This award is our 3rd consecutive honor.
December 2007—Grade 6 Curriculum is Complete
Learn the best food choices for fueling a healthy body and the best activities for strengthening your heart.
Nutrition and exercise lesson plans round out the curriculum for Grade 6.

August 2007—Grant Will Support Enhancements
The
Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation is providing a $1 million grant to Texas Heart Institute to establish an endowment to enable enhancement of Project Heart resources. Read the
press release and stay tuned for further developments.
July 2007—Get Fit with 5th Grade

The
exercise lesson plan completes the curriculum for Grade 5. Explore a variety of ways for students to keep their hearts healthy. Look for the soccer ball icon in each grade level.
March 2007—Nutrition Month

Make good nutrition part of a heart-healthy classroom; use the nutrition lesson for each grade level (look for the apple icon).
Suggested Links lists myriad nutrition-oriented websites with resources and activities. For example, visit the
American Dietetic Association for teacher activities promoting "Fad Free" eating.
January 2007—Lessons for Nutrition and Exercise Online
Featuring calorie calculation activities and step trails,
lesson plans 2 and 3 are now online, completing the curriculum for Grade 4.
