Help us spread the word about Project Heart by adding www.texasheart.org/projectheart to your school, library, or personal website.
Together we can prevent heart disease by educating children about how to live a heart-healthy lifestyle.
Why Project Heart?
Texas Heart Institute is a nonprofit organization that has been ranked among the top 10 heart centers in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for 21 consecutive years. We are committed to reducing the number of deaths due to cardiovascular disease through research, education, and improved patient care.
One of our missions is to promote heart-healthy nutrition and exercise for kids and their families. For this reason, we established a comprehensive curriculum available in English and Spanish and aligned with national and Texas standards.
About Our Curriculum
The curriculum focuses on educating children, grades K through 6, on the cardiovascular system and cardiovascular health in a fun and interesting manner. It is based on Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and is aligned for National Health Education Standards (NHES). Project Heart is easily accessed without cost through our website: www.texasheart.org/projectheart.
The curriculum provides lessons in anatomy, nutrition, and exercise appropriate for each grade level. Additional resources, like an instructional guide, multimedia graphics, audio, and feedback opportunities, can also be accessed through the website.
New interactive programs, like quizzes designed specifically to test each level, animated stories, and other child-friendly engaging content, will soon be available.
How You Can Help
Help the Texas Heart Institute educate others about the cardiovascular system and health by linking Project Heart to your website. If we start educating children how to live heart-healthy lives at a young age, we can prevent the heart disease that is taking such a toll on the adult population. Your help can make a difference.
