Grade 4 Curriculum

The Project Heart: Activities for the Classroom lesson plans designed for Grade 4 provide comprehensive, age-appropriate materials to teach heart-related anatomy, nutrition, and exercise. An instructional guide is available for additional information.

Anatomy  Lesson Plan 1  
Anatomy: What Are Coronary Arteries?

Goal: Students will understand the basic function of the heart, and identify good and bad health behaviors, and explain how they affect the heart. 

Nutrition  Lesson Plan 2  
Nutrition: What Nutrients Does My Body Need?

Goals: Students will understand the roles carbohydrates, protein, fat, and water play in maintaining a healthy body.

Students will understand how food provides fuel (energy) to the body, how much fuel the body needs, how the fuel is used, and what happens to unused fuel.

Exercise: How Does Exercise Help My Heart?

Goal: Students will understand the relationship between life-long physical activity and a healthy heart.
