Question:

Will a patient with diabetes who receives a drug coated stent have a greater risk of infection?

What risks are there to a diabetic patient battling elevated blood sugar after receiving a Des type (drug coated) stent? As far as infection of the stent, as diabetics are more likely to inherit infections than non-diabetics?

There are no known risks of infection for DES in any subpopulation. However, diabetics are prone to coronary artery disease as well as other vascular disorders, thus, taking care of your health and modifiable risk factors are paramount to future care.
