Question:

Do you offer any stem cell treatments for A Fib?

Hello. Do you currently offer any adult donor autologous stem cell treatments for A Fib?

submitted by Diane from Canada on 8/27/2013

Answer:

by Texas Heart Institute cardiologist, Guilherme Silva, MD

Guilherme Silva, MDDiane,  We currently do not offer stem cell therapy for atrial fibrillation. There have been some initial studies with stem cells replacing the sinus node, (the natural pacemaker of the heart) but not atrial fibrillation.

The current treatment of atrial fibrillation has evolved tremendously with the advent of invasive ablation techniques. I would suggest consulting with an electrophysiologist to further explore your options. Hope that helps.
