I have a mechanical heart valve. Is it safe for me to fly?

I have a mechanical heart valve (St. Jude type) since May, 2000. Can I take a trip to Ireland? I've been afraid to fly ever since. Thank you.

There is no reason why having a St. Jude heart valve should prevent you from flying.
