Is there any way to remove plaque build-up from your arteries?

Hi. I am wondering is there any way to remove plaque build-up from your arteries? Such as a lot of cardio at the gym? And how can you find out if you have any build up?

George Younis, MDThe best way to minimize plaque build-up and perhaps remove plaque that might already exist is to exercise, maintain your weight, stop smoking, and manage other medical problems such as diabetes.  There are tests such as CAT scans which can evaluate for the presence of atherosclerotic blockages, but they are probably best to use only in select populations and not as general screening.
