Question:
What is sternitis and mediastinitis?
submitted by Dorothy from Tennessee on 12/05/2012
Answer:
by Texas Heart Institute cardiologist, Patrick J. Cook, MD
I've never heard of sternitis...presumptively, it's inflammation of the sternum. Mediastinitis is an inflammatory process, often infectious and often occurring postoperatively, involving the midline structures in the chest. It's not, as a rule, a cardiovascular problem per se.
