THI Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship

The Texas Heart Institute Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center was started in 1965. The fellowship has a rich history of stalwart clinician-educators, such as Dr. Leachman, Dr. Robert Hall, Texas Heart Institute president emeritus Dr. James T. Willerson, and many others, who take tremendous pride in training our fellows.

Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology Fellowship

The Texas Heart Institute Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center began in 2004. It is an approved Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Council program at Baylor College of Medicine, and has been an accredited fellowship subspecialty program of the ACGME since 2015.

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship

The ACGME-accredited Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship is sponsored by Baylor College of Medicine and based at the Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. The goal of this training program, which is supported by Texas Heart Institute professional teaching staff, is to train cardiac electrophysiologists to provide vast and diverse experience in clinical and interventional electrophysiology.

Denton A. Cooley Fellowship

The Denton A. Cooley Fellowship provides an educational experience for for North American cardiothoracic surgeons who are in their final year of residency or have recently completed their residency. The fellowship is funded and administered by the AATS Foundation as part of the Honoring Our Mentors Fellowship Program.

Cardiac CT/MR Fellowship

Texas Heart Institute and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center have the leading Cardiovascular Imaging in Magnetic Resonance & Computed Tomography (MR & CT) unit in the region, and the MR & CT Fellowship is designed to leverage these facilities and the knowledge of our teaching staff to train the next generation of physicians on cutting-edge techniques and best practices.

Interventional Cardiology Subspecialty Fellowship

The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship (ICF) is one of Texas Heart Institute’s subspecialty fellowships, designed to be a natural extension of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship for those with a particular interest in interventional methods. Upon completion of the program, graduates are procedural interventional cardiology specialists with the expertise needed to handle even the most complex of interventional cases.

Pediatric Cardiology Fellowships

The Pediatric Cardiology Fellowships are part of our Accredited Clinical Residency and Fellowship Programs and are affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. These fellowships require a Texas license to practice medicine or a Physician-in-Training permit.

Cardiovascular Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine Fellowships

The Cardiovascular Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine Fellowships are both one-year ACGME-accredited (CA-5 level) clinical fellowship opportunities. The Cardiovascular Anesthesia fellowship offers further advanced training in anesthesia for cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery. The Critical Care Medicine fellowship offers further advanced training in perioperative critical care medicine.

Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowships

The ACGME Accredited Congenital Cardiac Surgery Fellowship Program is designed and organized to educate in the basic anatomy and physiology of the majority of congenital cardiac lesions, and to provide the fellow with a basis of surgical technical proficiency for common, uncomplicated congenital heart defects.

Thoracic Surgery Residency

The Texas Heart Institute/Baylor College of Medicine Thoracic Surgery Residency Program is a three-year program that accepts four residents annually. The program provide comprehensive training in adult and pediatric thoracic and cardiac surgery in an environment that stresses clinical excellence, clinical and basic research, and teaching as long-term goals for graduates.

Research Fellowships

The Texas Heart Institute provides postdoctoral training opportunities in several of our basic and clinical research program departments. These fellowship opportunities are non-accredited, and do not include responsibilities or duties to provide or participate in direct patient care.
