Program Need: Cardiology and cardiovascular anesthesiology fellows in training continually request informal review sessions before the National Board of Echocardiography examinations from area experts. In response to the need, experts at Texas Heart Institute have organized a 1-½ day intensive review course to fill this educational gap. The course will help to prepare attendees in a cost effective manner for following National Board of Echocardiography Examinations (NBE) http://www.echoboards.org/.
Houston Echo Review is a one and a half-day course designed to prepare for the National Board of Echocardiography Board examination through lectures, interactive discussions and case presentations. The review will take place 90 days prior to the ASCexam in July 2012. The course will be a fast-paced review of similar topics that are covered in the exam. The goal of the review is to provide enough detail so that attendees will be able to identify areas of potential weakness so that they may effectively design their own self-study program in preparation for the National Board of Echocardiography Examinations (NBE). The course will also provide an overview of echo lab accreditation (ICAEL).
This is a good review for any practicing echocardiographer regardless of whether or not they are taking the NBE exam. The participant will find this course to be a good review for both the NBE initial and recertification examinations. Sonographers are encouraged to attend but this review should not be used as a "stand alone" review for sonographers reviewing for their professional credentialing examinations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of each lecture in the series, the participant should be able to:

Recognize the morphological features of the disease process under discussion based on two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography.

Cite the most important two-dimensional echo quantitative methods clinically applicable to the cardiovascular disease under discussion.

Apply and/or be able to refer to the most appropriate methods for Doppler assessment and quantitative methods of the cardiovascular disease process under discussion.
- Discuss the basics of a cutting edge anatomical or Doppler method for evaluation of the cardiovascular disease process under discussion.
