Program Overview

Currently, there is a gap between what care providers know about recent advances in diabetes treatment and research and how they clinically manage patients with the disease. In addition, recent published work shows that feedback by specialists to primary care physicians improves outcomes in patients with diabetes. The goal of this program is to bridge the gap between the application of basic and clinical diabetes research to improvements in care for patients with diabetes.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this symposium, participants should be able to–

  • Discuss the  recent advances in obesity and diabetes research and treatment.
  • Discuss the pathogenesis and prevention of type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
  • Identify options for treatment in the patient with type 2 diabetes.
  • Describe the pathogenesis and prevention of microvascular and macrovascular complications in the patient with diabetes.

Target Audience

This course has been designed for the primary care clinician.
