CME Information - Overview

Almost six million Americans have congestive heart failure; 550,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. About half of patients receiving a diagnosis of severe heart failure die within five years.

The goal of this symposium is to educate physicians on the clinical application of stem cells in cardiovascular disease. The challenge remains to identify the very best types of stem cells, refine our delivery techniques, and establish the most effective doses of stem cells.

Cardiologists desiring to further their knowledge of how stem cells play a role in heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, and peripheral vascular disease will find the discussions timely and relevant to their practice in providing improved patient care.

Educational Objectives
The intended result of this activity is increased knowledge. At the conclusion of this symposium, participants should be able to--

  • Summarize recent scientific advances related to the use of stem cells in treating heart failure, acute myocardial infarction and peripheral vascular disease.
  • Describe the mechanism of action of cell therapy in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
  • Discuss the use of stem cells in the regeneration of damaged heart tissues.

Target Audience
The intended audience for this continuing medical education activity includes cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, internists with an interest in cardiology and clinical researchers.
