Overview


This CME series examines the incidents, risk factors, clinical trials and management of patients with patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect. Management options such as surgery, intracardiac catheterization, and medical therapy will be compared.

Target Audience 

The intended audience for this continuing medical education activity includes cardiologists, neurologists, and internal medicine physicians. The goal of this symposium is to educate physicians on the pros and cons of each therapy option.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this symposium, participants should be able to–

  • Discuss percutaneous patent foramen ovale management options.
  • Cite the risks and benefits of percutaneous patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect closure.
  • Summarize the indications for percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale/atrial septal defect.
