The Elkins Foundation

Allowing researchers new opportunities

The Elkins Foundation made a gift in memory of Dr. S. Ward Casscells, III

The Elkins Foundation's commitment to the Texas Heart Institute supports research in cardiovascular genetics and early diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerotic plaques.

This project will allow researchers the opportunity to identify the genes that put patients most at risk for early heart attacks and strokes, the advancement of imaging technologies to identify vulnerable plaques in the vasculature before they rupture and/or fissure, and the development of drugs or cell-based therapies to prevent sudden heart attacks that result from atherosclerosis.

The Sarofim Foundation

Advancing research in the battle with cardiovascular disease

The Texas Heart Institute is honored to be the recipient of a contribution from The Sarofim Foundation.

This gift was directed to programs in cardiovascular research under the direction of Dr. James T. Willerson.

The Foundation's support will enhance a wide array of research, including identification of risk factors that cause heart disease, use of adult stem cells to improve blood flow and heart function, and much more.

The Vivian L. Smith Foundation

Expanding research and medical education excellence

Since 1991, the Vivian L. Smith Foundation has helped enable the research and education efforts of the Texas Heart Institute.

Most recently, the Foundation generously supported the Institute with a multiyear grant for The Plan for Renewal, Innovation & Excellence campaign.

Campaign funding will support the enhancement and expansion of five major areas of research excellence in cardiovascular medicine and advancement of THI's distinguished medical education programs.
