Facing the Future with the Strengths of Our Past
Texas Heart Institute Notes 45th Anniversary
On Friday, August 3, 2007, the Texas Heart Institute marked its 45th anniversary. Since its visionary founding by Dr. Denton A. Cooley in 1962, the Texas Heart Institute has been home to improvements in heart transplantation, surgical techniques and mechanical assist devices that have offered hope to people in Texas, across the United States and around the world.
Add to that minimally invasive treatments, innovations in genetics-based therapies, such as the use of adult stem cells, and a comprehensive education program for health care professionals and the public, and you have an organization that is doing all it can to advance the understanding, prevention and treatment of the nation’s leading cause of death.
We take great pride in our
accomplishments, yet we realize that great institutions cannot live forever off spectacular achievements and discoveries. On the contrary, their reputations derive from a record of continuing discovery, sharing of new knowledge and exceptional patient care. For 45 years, that has been our goal. We have not done it alone.
Because the Texas Heart Institute does not have a stream of operating revenue, advances in the understanding, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease have been made possible by the uncommon support of individuals, organization, corporations, and foundations. Twice each year, we are pleased to produce Texas Heart Institute UPDATE to salute the generosity and loyalty of our many friends.
